On Page Optimization Techniques
In this thread we will be discussing various techniques by which we can do
on page optimization On Page Optimization refers to the techniques by which we make our website 'search engine friendly' So that search engines can easily crawl our website and can easily identify the keywords (which we are targeting for)
On Page Optimization Techniques may vary from crawler to crawler of different search engines, still there are some on page optimization tips which will surely help you in every search engine
1) Use your primary keyword on the page with <h1> tag somewhere on your page. Best preferred position for this is left hand side on the top of the page and use your secondary keyword with <h2> tags .
2) Use <alt> tag in your website and those alt tags should contain the keywords of your website.
3) Place Keyword in the beginning as well as in the end of the page.
4) Use your keywords in your title instead of general welcome notes for example instead of using "Welcome to example.com" use something like "examples of living for everyday life" .
5) Once your website is ready then , you can bold , underline or italicize some of the keywords . Make sure to do this only 1 time for each keyword , If done more then once then it may hurt your website more then it helps.
6) Further you can place the keywords in the form of navigational links on the very left hand side of your page . As we have mentioned before that google bots starts reading your page from very left . So it can further help you optimize your website for keywords.
Before we can move further I will like introduce a new term over here that is keyword density
Keyword Density is the percentage of times a keyword appears on your page, compared to the total number of words on the page.
For example :
If there are total 100 words on your page and your keyword "SEO" appears 10 time in that page then keyword density for your keyword "SEO" is 10% .(10/100 = .1 => .1 x 100 = 10)
There is no magic keyword density formula. There are only some guidelines to consider when you are deciding how many times a keyword should be placed on a page. Google has a strict requirement as google doesn't tolerate keyword density more then 2% . If keyword density is more then 2% then it is considered as spamming. However keyword density tolerance for yahoo and MSN is bit higher then google as Yahoo and MSN can tolerate keyword density upto 5%.
